On the northwest side of the Forum is the Capitol in Thuburbo Majus which was built in 168 CE. The podium was the house to the temple treasury. Make sure that make your way up to the Corinthian-style columns of 28ft high made of Carrara marble (13 stairs). The cella stands in dedication to the statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. The 7 meter statue of Jupiter which was found is displayed in the Bardo Museum. It is highly recommended that you plan a separate trip to the the Bardo Museum From the Capitol you can have a panoramic view of the Roman city.As you tour the site make sure that pay attention to the remains of the cisterns which is located 200 meters south of the Temple of Ceres. The cisterns supplied water to the town. Farther away is the ruin of an amphitheater. Forum The Forum in Thuburbo Majus measures 49 meter is a square structure with a paved area was constructed between 161 and 192 A.D. The pavement has its three sides featuring a Corinthian portico. Market The ancient market of Thuburbo Majus features three courtyards, two of which were pillared. The courtyard without pillars had shops on its three sides. The main sources of income were oil, wheat, wine and fruit. Entry Tickets cost 4 dinars (2009) per person. Might be charged 1 dinars for photography. Site has a small Souvenir shop and Restrooms.

HOTELS Nothing. Head back to Tunis (130 km) or Zaghouan (50 km, if you have too).
RESTAURANTS Local restaurant in El Fahs (3 KM). Get a pizza or half a chicken (+/- 3 dinars). Better to arrange for a lunch pack if you plan a day trip.
