Our family loved a quick day-trip outside of Tunis recently. Thought we’d share in case yours would, too.
With sandwiches and a few pages printed off the internet in-hand, we left at about noon, heading for the Punic town of Kerkouane —the only one of its kind!
As we meandered along Cape Bon’s beachfront we couldn’t resist a quick stop a Korbous, the thermal springs that pour into the Mediterranean. Back on the main road we (and a 500 millime real starfish) continued on, quickly arriving to the UNESCO World Heritage Site 2250 year-old destination.
It impressed me. The artifacts in the museum were fascinating. The mosaic floors in the houses were as good as new in many places. The houses’ bathtubs were still as functional as ever. And all of this was within earshot of the sea.
On the way back we cut across the green, rolling hills, only stopping to buy some natural honey from a boy that had a roadside stand (you can get two pints for about 20 or 25 dinars) and a couple of coffees.
We were back in Tunis for dinner with very little expense and a great family memory.
