Partake of the famous North African “couscous”, a uniquely-prepared plate of vegetables, and sometimes meat, over a bed of couscous grains.  The spice radar varies!  Enjoy and let your host continue serving you until you can eat no more!  Other popular foods in Tunisia include the schwarma sandwich (pita with meat, veggies, and french fries on top), tuna, rotisserie chicken and pizza (even with tuna on top).  In fact, most “fast food” on the street is one of the above!  Many western food products are unavailable, but you can adequately find all that you need to maintain a well-balanced diet.

Be careful about buying coffee in a fancy hotel, which may charge up to 3 dinars Coffee is about 300-500 millemes in a coffee shop or local restaurant.  Options include expresso and “Direct” (also called cafe creme or cafe au Lait with steamed milk).  Restaurants that many westerners enjoy are “The House”, “Joe Champs” (American Sports Bar and Restaurant), and a couple of great Turkish and Syrian sandwich shops.
