Visitors to Tunisia will soon be arriving in style at Enfidha’s newly built state-of-the-art airport. Enfidha is in the heart of Tunisia’s north east tourist district, approximately 50 miles (80km) south of the capital, Tunis.

The new airport is situated 25 miles (40km) south of Hammamet and 30 miles (48km) north of Sousse. Work commenced on the €560 million project in June 2007 and it is expected to be fully operational by October 2009. Initially it will serve 7 million passengers every year but has the capacity to expand to 22 million passengers by 2050. The airport has been constructed by Turkish company TAV Construction who will also operate the airport alongside the existing Monastir airport to minimize competition between these two facilities.

Many new jobs have been created during the construction of this huge project, and 1200 permanent jobs will be created when it opens, along with a further 10,000 indirect jobs. The international airport will have 18 boarding bridges to cater for 18 aircraft and a remote apron area for a further 14 aircraft stands.

The new Enfidha airport is an architectural masterpiece with state-of-the-art design concepts. The glass buildings, which will accommodate check-in counters, baggage carousels, immigration and customs facilities, have a tall open-framed superstructure making a contemporary design statement.

Offering first class services and the latest technology, the Enfidha airport will make an excellent first impression on visitors to Tunisia. With shops, restaurants and cafés, flying in and out of Enfidha  will be a pleasant experience. As Tunisia’s tourist trade continues to grow, based on its clear sunny skies, interesting exotic culture, fine beaches, hotels and golf courses, the new airport will enhance Tunisia’s growing reputation as a top holiday resort, particularly for adventure-seekers looking for desert safaris.
